San Francisco

Claire, AnnaMaria and Mirza at San Francisco Cathedral. This is still an active churh, but also a museum and ruins. The area where they are standing is near the former monks quarters. Mirza is Claire's Spanish teacher. We went on "field trip" today.

From what I understand, St. Pedro de San Jose Betancur, who was known to the locals as Hermano Pedro was declared a Saint by the Pope in 2002. He was a 17th-century missionary who built hospitals, schools and shelters in Antigua. There were several walls in the cathedral covered with thank you notes from people who feel they were touched by a miracle after praying to this Saint. There were also lots of crutches and leg braces which people had left in the church after being healed.
