Here she is! Born 10/20/06, approx. 5 ½ lbs, 19 ½ inches. This photo was taken at 6 weeks. Our paperwork is nearly complete and as Jeff says, “she’s in layaway”. In adoption lingo, we “got our referral” this past week.
We first saw an infant photo of her on our adoption agency website when she was just a week old. Her given name is Maria Rosario and
since we were thinking of naming our baby AnnaMaria Rose, it seemed like a sign. The fact that she was still available two months later seemed like a sign as well. As Claire says, “God was just saving her for us.” The girls chose the name AnnaMaria from a character in “The Pirates of the Caribbean.” Rose was my Grandma Dorothy’s middle name.
We have learned that the birth mom was 41 and unmarried. She couldn’t care for the baby due to poverty. The next step will be DNA testing to verify that the birth mom and baby listed on the birth certificate are truly a match. Once that is confirmed we will be able to travel to Guatemala for a visit trip. We hope to visit at least once prior to the pick up trip. During the visit we will be able to have AnnaMaria with us day and night. It will undoubtedly be very hard to leave her. We plan to take the kids on one of the trips.
The adoption agency indicated that the wait from this point will be another 4-8 months before we bring her home. It could be longer, but probably won’t be any shorter. She is living with a foster mom in Guatemala City. We don’t have any specific information about the foster care, but by all reports their foster care is very good.
We appreciate your prayers and support during this process. Please continue to pray that AnnaMaria will be safe and well cared for and that the legal process in Guatemala will go as smoothly and quickly as possible.
