This is our last night in Antigua. I would like to tell you that we’re very sad to be leaving, but by now, we’re just ready to move toward home! We will move tomorrow to the Clarion Suites in Guatemala City. There were very few hotels available and most were very expensive. I’m not sure what is going on, but the city seems busy.
We have not been successful in getting our Embassy date moved up. As it stands we will go to the Embassy on Monday morning and return Tuesday at 3:30 to pick up AnnaMaria’s visa. That would make our first opportunity to fly to the US on Wednesday of next week.
I’ve emailed the Embassy twice, our congressman’s office has called, I will personally visit the Embassy to beg tomorrow. We need to have our appointment NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY OF THIS WEEK! OK, we don’t really HAVE to have that, but it sure would be great to have a full week of vacation in the states with our family.
We went to the city today. On a good day the trip is about 45 minutes. It was well over an hour today due to traffic. Our driver had the windows open and the fumes get really bad. I have always gotten a little motion sick and it’s never a fun trip for me….curvy, hilly, questionable driving techniques…
Today we met Merari who works with our attorney. She is gorgeous! We’ll have to try to get a photo at the Embassy visit. AnnaMaria had her visa photo taken at a storefront photo place. It was a quick visit and $7 later, we had three photos. Then we were off to see the Embassy doctor. AnnaMaria is now 20 lbs 6 oz. and 29 inches long. She was called “gordita”. My translation for that would be “chubby little baby girl”. The exam was very basic and the doctor spoke wonderful English. It was all easy except for the shot! But…another sucker and all was well. AnnaMaria slept all the way home. The driving doesn’t bother her a bit.
We thought we’d have a nice meal out tonight. Lily had a hankering for cordon bleu, but unfortunately, it was raining like crazy this evening. Eventually, I walked to the corner grocery and bought some frozen chicken nuggets. That and cheese made our last meal! We are sick of cheese, bread and tortillas! I’m ready for some steak and milk!
Life is busy getting packed up, saying good-byes, and selling off some of our spare stuff. It’s hard to believe how much stuff we have here. We’re donating several things to charity.
It’s late. We’ll try to post some photos soon! PLEASE PRAY FOR AN EARLIER APPOINTMENT AT THE EMBASSY!
