When we first talked about adopting, before we were even sure we would move forward, the girls came up with the name AnnaMaria (from Pirates of the Caribbean) Rose (Sharon’s grandma’s middle name). We KNEW our baby when we saw Maria Rosario on the photo list from our agency. I am still in awe that she is now sleeping in the same room where I am typing in KY!
Her legal name is currently Maria Rosario Douthitt. We have decided to only change her first name to AnnaMaria and keep Rosario as her middle name. Her birth mother’s name was Rosario and we feel such love for her and the difficult decisions she made. Without Rosario, we wouldn’t have our precious baby girl! I feel certain Grandma Dorothy would still be proud!
What a mouthful! We aren’t opposed to a nickname, but nothing has stuck yet. We really don’t like just Anna, but some folks are starting to call her that. I became used to her being referred to as Maria in Guatemala when we went to doctor appointments and such. I’m sure something will evolve. Oliver was named after Jeff’s great-grandpa, who was always called Ollie. We intended to call him Ollie, but it wasn’t until Claire started talking that it really stuck, until then it was always Oliver. It’s funny to listen to us call him Oliver in old videos.
