Spring Break

We have not had internet connection during Spring Break other than our phones, so it has really been a nice break from cyber world. As I write this, it is the last evening in AZ. It is amazing how vacations always seem to start a little slow, then before you know it it’s time to go home. Ollie commented today that 7 days is not enough, we need at least 10. I think I agree!

We have been to Phoenix twice before with the Big Three. During those trips we stayed next door at the Hilton resort. This time we are in a two bedroom condo, which much better fits our family of six, but we miss the Hilton!

Our week…Sunday we enjoyed visiting with Julie, her daughter Bailey, her Guatemalan son Gavin and her brother Patrick. Julie adopted through the same agency as we did and we met her in Guatemala during one of her visit trips. “Per usual” AnnaMaria was not so nice to Gavin, but he is a Sweetie! AnnaMaria loved Bailey, which isn’t surprising since she so likes “big kids”. It was nice to catch up with Julie. There is certainly a special bond that develops during the adoption process.

We’ve had great food here. We love the Tex Mex and ate at Richardson’s, which is reportedly Pres. Bush’s favorite. Ollie has been grilling for us and was caught singing, “You Sexy Thing” to our steaks one evening.

The guys managed to get in three rounds of golf during the trip. I keep reminding them that we belong to a Country Club back home, which they NEVER use, but I guess vacation is different!

On Tuesday we spent the entire day at the Hilton. It was the same price to rent a Cabana as it would be for day passes for all of us so we went with the Cabana. It is truly a beautiful resort and we all enjoyed the day. Ollie especially enjoys the little flags which signal that he needs more food. And…he always needs more food!

On Wednesday, all the girls made a trip to the zoo, where we met Ethan and his dad, Paul. They were our first neighbors at the apartments in Guatemala. What a sweet, sweet family! When we met them they lived in TX, but have since moved to the Phoenix area where mom, Karen’s family lives. We were able to have dinner with all three of them on Friday at a fun Cuban restaurant. Ethan was born one day before AnnaMaria.

So…..of all these boys AnnaMaria met and re-met, I think her favorite was Shawn Michael. On Wednesday we also visited with a family from our home town in IL. AnnaMaria was quite charmed by the grandson! She even gave him a hug, but unfortunately our photo did not turn out at all.

We're back home now…it’s cold and dreary, but it’s still good to be home!
