Our crib never arrived last night, so Jeff sleep in one of the kid beds and AnnaMaria shared the king size bed with me. She’s not rolling over, so we barricaded her in with pillows and it was fine. She woke up at 3am; took a bottle and went back to sleep until precisely 6:30, which is when the foster mom said she usually gets up. She went to sleep a little early last night and didn’t eat too much, so we felt that was pretty good for the first night.
She seems to be sleeping more today. I hope that doesn’t keep her from sleeping tonight. Maybe the change in circumstances just has her worn out or perhaps the foster mom underestimated her napping time.
Developmentally she seems to be doing well. She has a good grasp, follows objects with her eyes, has mostly good head/neck control, clearly recognized the foster mom’s voice, kicks and wiggles, coos. She seems to like bright colors. Jeff has been wearing an orange hat and she is drawn to it.
We finally figured out the word for screwdriver (we now own three Spanish phrase books), so we were able to put the bouncy seat together this morning. We took it to the breakfast buffet and it worked out quite well. The buffet here is very good; lots of pastries, juice, fruit, made to order omelets, and traditional tortilla type food. We’re careful to ask for agua pura (purified water) and certainly hope to avoid any issues with that!
The hotel pool is very nice. There were several local children here today for swim lessons. It was fun to see all the different kids. It was also great to get some sun!
Various groups of us have ventured out during the day. We’ve experienced Burger King the local supermercado (supermarket), and the ice cream shop. The park across the street was picturesque today – young couples on park benches, children taking pony rides, and families enjoying ice cream cones. It seems that all the local fast food restaurants have play lands. It’s such a family oriented place and helps to explain AnnaMaria’s easy nature.
Claire has proven to be the best communicator and she also seems to have another interesting gift. The young men always seem especially helpful when the blonde American girl asks for assistance. Today, there was a young guy selling calling cards in a booth at the supermarket. When we asked him for information regarding purchasing a cell phone, he literally hopped over the half door of his booth and escorted us to the parking lot for instruction. When that didn’t quite help us, he walked us to the next parking lot so we could see the camera store. It was actually closed, so we’ll try again tomorrow.

Hi -
I saw your email to the CCI group. Sounds like you guys are having a great trip. Are all of the kids with you?
We went last year to visit Caleb and then pick him up later. Hannah (8 year old daughter) went with us both times and had a wonderful time.
What hotel are you in? The Marriott has a great pool, I wondered if that was where you are staying. We went to visit our two girls we are adopting (Maya and Sofia) and stayed at the Marriott. The pool was closed for renovations. It opened the day we left - bummer.
If you don't get your crib, ask for it, they should bring it to you.
Also, if you are at the Marriott, there is a great little grocery store about a block away. They have water, diapers, etc. Worth checking out. Short walk, or the staff can help you out. Also, don't forget the baby room on the 3rd floor.
If your not at the Marriott, none of this will make sense.
Have a great trip.
Bus and Sabra and (Hannah, Caleb, Maya and Sofia)
