Day 3

Day 3

Jeff ventured out early to explore Spanish language schools. He was successful and he, Claire & Ollie signed up for a week of classes. Just for today they attend class from 1-5, but during the rest of the week it will be a morning class. The storefront is very near our hotel, but then they get in a “taxi” (gotta get a photo of this!) and travel 8-10 minutes to a house where they sit outside for their lessons. Each student has one teacher and they sit across from each other at tiny tables. They all seemed to really enjoy it, but they said it was intense.

We all visited the Mercado (open air market) and found the pharmacy and grocery store. That area of town was not as clean as others, but it was filled with local people and interesting to see.

We did a little clothes shopping during the day. Claire got some shirts and a pair of jeans; Lily got a couple of shirts. Lily says I should add that Claire’s jeans are “skin tight”, which is quite fashionable here.

We also had our laundry done. We dropped off 2 large laundry bags in the morning at Lily’s Laundry. They said it would be done at 4 p.m. Lily, AnnaMaria and I returned to pick them up, but I only had $100 bill and they did not have enough change. The charge was $17. They insisted that we take the laundry and bring the money back later. Everything was clean and neatly folded; a great deal for the price. They even put the baby clothes in a separate bag and the socks in a separate bag.

Lily and I attempted to exchange some dollars at the banco. We took a wrong turn and ended up at the wrong bank, but a bank none the less. They only allow so many people inside at a time. There is an armed guard posted at the door motioning people in.

We stood in line for a long time, but finally gave up. AnnaMaria found a cute little baby boy to flirt with while we were in line. Lily and I thought it was hot, crowded and miserable at the bank, but AnnaMaria loved it there!

We ended our day with a meal at a Mexican Restaurant (spicier than Guatemalan food). The dutiful students had already learned a few things!

Hope all of you are well!
